Links for patients with rare cancers

There is a considerable amount of information available on cancer and its treatments. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask us, either by calling the telephone Helpline or, better still, dropping in.

What is a rarer cancer?

  • There are hundreds of different types of cancer, and research suggests that between 30% and 50% of all cancer cases could be classified as 'rarer'.
  • A cancer may be classed as 'rarer' either because it affects an unusual site in the body, or because the cancer itself is of an unusual type, or requires special treatment.
